Amy Shark, Hussy Hicks, Hollow Coves & more shine as winners of 2018 Gold Coast Music Awards

The 4th annual Gold Coast Music Awards were held this year at Surfer’s Paradise beachfront on Thursday night, seeing performances from some of the biggest and best in Gold Coast talent, including Bobby Alu, Eliza and the Delusionals, Hussy Hicks and more. The night was hosted dutifully by former triple j presenter Dom Alessio who remarked “I don’t think I’ve ever been to an award show on a beach before”.

Amy Shark and Hussy Hicks we’re two of the big winners on the night, with Shark taking Artist of the Year for the second year running, while Hussy Hicks’ On The Boundaries won Album of the Year. Rising stars on an international front, Hollow Coves also took home two of the night’s nine trophies, Breakout Artist of Year and Song of the Year for “Coastlines”. The Mason Rack Band, meanwhile, won the newly added Live Act of the Year trophy, with the frontman dedicating the award to his partner in an emotional speech, reminding everyone in the room of the sacrifices partners make for touring musicians, and how appreciated that support is.

A testament to their international successes – and the rising voice of the Gold Coast music scene, neither Amy Shark nor Hollow Coves were able to attend, as they were overseas, accepting via video link. Shark took the opportunity to ensure her local fans that there’s no place like home, and that no award means more to her than one presented to her by her hometown.
