Album Review: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Soundtrack (2014 Compilation)

Music is honestly the best gift in the entire world and if I had the choice of losing my hearing or eyesight forever, I’d choose my eyesight because without my hearing, music would cease to exist in my life and the thought of that makes me want to cry.

If you’re looking for a quick fix of superhero action goodness, then The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Soundtrack may be just what you need to fulfil that ultimate goal of yours.

The soundtrack includes a compilation of songs that are from the film with the added perks of hearing tracks from various artists such as Tonight AliveThe Neighbourhood and Pharrell WilliamsHans Zimmer is the man responsible for the workings of the instrumental pieces and it can be said that this man had a clear headspace when working on the music composition for film. To describe them in three words, they would be: creative, superior and empowering.

“There He Is” is nothing short of upbeat, bringing an eerie and mysterious atmosphere to the start of the soundtrack. It intrigues the listener by its fast-paced nature as the electronic music flowers into a beautiful stringent of notes, informing the listener to feel the thrill of both fear and excitement. With dubstep features accompanied by a passionate orchestra, using the word daring would be an understatement when describing the track “My Enemy”. The use of dubstep elements have been cleverly interwoven in the track with an eager rush of echoing voices, inviting the listener to be on the edge of their seat while they await a dramatic event that can occur at any given moment.

Most importantly, The Neighbourhood and Tonight Alive deliver fantastic tracks to the compilation. Hearing “Honest” nurtures the compelling soul of any listener with its interesting mix of hip-hop, RnB and indie rock elements. The lyrics are on point as they are simple and speak the truth, delivering a wholehearted message that if you’re not honest about yourself or anything in general, you could lose the people you love over the lies and manipulation of your own dishonesty. It’s an encouraging song emphasising that honesty really is the best policy.

Jenna’s vocals in “The Edge” are quite amazing, adding true definition and emphasis to the word ‘fiery’. It’s a quality pop punk track that complements well with the intensity of the film and needless to say, any rock number in a film soundtrack makes it automatically awesome in my books.

Overall, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Soundtrack is a definite go-to album if you want to reminisce over the film or if you have the sudden urge to jump around whilst wearing a Spiderman costume and feeling all kinds of invincible. It’s honestly your take on how you approach it really because at the end of the day, only you can make the choice of being your own hero and that’s the simple truth.

Review Score: 8.0 out of 10.
