While Netflix subscribers got an exclusive look earlier this morning, everyone got to see a whopping 26 minutes of Grand Theft Auto 6 just hours later. The Extended Look showed us plenty of cinematic sequences, action, activities and a decent dive into this much larger version of Vice City.
Without further ado, let’s jump in and unpack everything.
The Pick Up
We first meet Jason and Lucia, our two playable protagonists, picking up a bag of drugs to take back to their contact. Upon meeting the gang leader Raymond and securing the bag, the apartment building is swarmed by cops, and Jason and Lucia must weave their way in and out of the action to escape.
The first thing you’ll notice about this section is just how dense and detailed each of these corridors and rooms feel. At every corner, it just seems like someone is doing their own thing, having their own conversation or interacting with the environment. As you navigate corridors and neighbouring rooms before escaping, I couldn’t help but notice the level of detail on display here. Even the books in the cabinets and bookshelves seem to be individually labelled.

Even so, the action is tense and brutal. As Jason hides behind corners, we get a look at what might be corrupt cops essentially shooting innocent bystanders in a bid to catch Raymond by any means necessary. The tight corridors and small rooms also lend themselves to some decent gunplay, as we learn here that red hit markers indicate that players have killed an enemy, while yellow markers indicate some sort of armour damage or partial wounding.
City Sights
We get a few cinematic sequences here, but in between, we get a great look at the various activities on offer in Vice City. As Jason and Lucia get ready to leave the house for a meeting, we see Jason help Lucia pick a dress, before turning on the TV to wait for her. It’s unclear if we’re able to choose between one of those two dresses, or have to wait in real time while Lucia gets ready.
Upon leaving the house, we also see some realistic traffic at certain stoplights and intersections, adding a level of authenticity to the open world. Cars beep as you overtake them, and weaving around red stoplights feels dangerous.

The scene then cuts to several activities that you can try between missions, including wrestling, more detailed hand-to-hand combat, conversations with strange citizens, and the ability to purchase and eat food at various opportunities. This last option feels more in line with Red Dead Redemption 2, where the conscious consumption of food actively played into your health and well-being.
The Chase
In what seems to be another meeting at a detailed rooftop bar, Jason and Lucia take on a job driving a getaway car, which highlights one of the more cinematic sequences of the showcase. I love how the conversation intermittently cuts to various small-time heists of service stations across Vice City, which looks to be a relatively consistent occurrence.
The scene then cuts to Lucia driving to the required address to pick up Jason. While waiting, a seemingly random stranger jumps in the car; we get an incredibly tense car chase with ensuing police cars. Jason hangs out the window as we fire at the cars behind us, before Lucia ducks into an alleyway nearby. The chase then continues with us back in the driver’s seat as Lucia locks in and the music fires on all cylinders. It’s incredibly chaotic, but works incredibly well.

Finally, you’ll even need to change clothes and burn the car, hinting to players that the wanted system will also track what you’re wearing, what vehicle you’re driving and even what the mask you’re wearing looks like.
Never Sleep
After this mission, we cut once again to a range of activities, including a river boat trip, the ability to shoot hoops outside Jason’s house, scuba diving, lifting weights at the gym, kayaking and splashing cash at the local strip club.
There are even a few motorsports to try as well, with what looks like a dedicated car and dirt bike racing. We’re also set to have some crazy tun-ins with civilians, as we see an influencer handing out the boot of the car you’re driving, on the run from the cops and in the middle of some sort of live stream.
In these scenes, it also appears as if we’re able to switch between Jason and Lucia at any point in time, even when next to each other or in the same mission.
Security Detail
Finally, we got a look at Jason and Lucia undertaking a security detail for a high-profile celebrity that soon turns into a rendition of Die Hard as the party is taken hostage. Jason and Lucia break free and dish out justice in their own unique way. They’re clearly very capable with weapons, and we even see Lucia at one point using a pump-action shotgun with one hand.

I would also like to point out here that the pop synth soundtrack that complements most of these moments is incredible. We also get a great look at the overall dynamic between Jason and Lucia, as they bounce off each other under pressure with humour and levity, bringing a sense of depth and believability to the relationship. I mean, you can even choose to hold hands in certain sequences.
Thoughts So Far
This action-packed look at Grand Theft Auto 6 feels like we’ve only scratched the surface, but given how detailed this looks from only 26 minutes of footage, I’m still struggling to comprehend the depth and complexity of what I’ve just seen.
Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, and we can’t wait for more.
