Tokyo Game Show 2015: Capcom to launch competitive team shooter Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps next year

In a wild departure for the Resident Evil series, Capcom have announced a tactical team-based competitive shooter called Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps. The game will arrive next year on PS4 according to producer Masachika Kawata, who made the announcement during Sony’s pre-TGS 2015 presser.

The gameplay video that followed the announcement showed teams of Umbrella Corps soldiers shooting the hell out of each other while surrounded by zombies. Militia were shown using the zombies in creative and tactical ways like human shields and luring them toward unsuspecting players.

It’s been a while since Capcom went the shooter route with Resident Evil. The last time they tried it was back in 2012 with Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City (pictured).

Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps will release in 2016, just in time for the series’ 20th anniversary.
