For some, the concept of the Rhythm series might be a hard sell on paper. It relies on the most simplistic controls imaginable—often just a single button press perfectly in time with a beat. But after getting hands-on with Rhythm Paradise Groove, arriving on the Nintendo Switch this July, it’s clear that the magic is in the execution, and those details are glorious.
Get in the Groove
At its core, Rhythm Paradise Groove is a typical rhythm game that requires precise controller inputs within strict timing windows.
However, what elevates the experience is the mesmerising, beautifully detailed graphics and animations that show incredible attention to detail. Whether you’re making a dog jump to catch a frisbee, matching the exact time of day to grab a slice of cake, or casting spells in the intriguing new rhythm-RPG mode known as “Beatspell,” the intoxicating sound design and charming animations never get old.
The unpredictable Remix stages only add to this variety, swapping between mini-games on the fly and forcing you to keep track of shifting timings without missing a beat.

Beatspell is a brand-new mode for the series. Rather than using mini-games to play, it is an RPG system that I can’t wait to explore further when the game releases. I was able to play through two chapters of this mode, where your character learns spells and casts them to repel monsters. It was a great introduction to this new mode, and I cannot wait to see how much is in store in the full game.
But where Rhythm Paradise Groove truly shines, and where we easily had the most fun, is in its multiplayer offerings. The cooperative modes add a surprisingly chaotic dynamic to the normally focused rhythm genre. The absolute standout for us was the Ninja Sync game. The timing on this mode is brutal, and it immediately brought out the extreme competitiveness in all of us who were playing.

We were absolutely determined to win, groaning at every missed arrow and celebrating our flawlessly timed deflections. It successfully transforms a solitary, toe-tapping experience into a high-stakes, yell-with-your-friends party game that never stops being fun to play.
Thoughts So Far
Rhythm Paradise Groove proves that you don’t need complex control schemes to deliver an unforgettable time.
If the full release can maintain the infectious, competitive energy of these early stages, it’s safe to say this will be an absolute game night essential.
Rhythm Paradise Groove launches on the Nintendo Switch (playable on the Nintendo Switch 2) on the 2nd of July, 2026.
