PAX Aus 2025: Hands-on with Lenovo’s new tech

PAX Aus 2025 might have come and gone, but the content just keeps on rolling.

We got the chance to spend some time with Lenovo to check out all the gear and tech coming out in 2025 and beyond. Let’s dive in.

The Legion 9i: Power Meets 3D Innovation

At the heart of the booth was the Lenovo Legion 9i (18”, 10) — a powerhouse laptop that immediately drew attention for its sleek build and bold promise: optional 2K 3D support. Lenovo’s execution is genuinely impressive.

The laptop’s built-in webcam tracks your eyes in real time, adjusting the 3D image based on where your eyes are landing on the screen. These moves feel smooth and immersive, so you can lean, shift, or tilt your head and still see the depth and perspective. The only downside is that other people sometimes interrupt the tracking in a busy convention, which shows this feature works best in a quieter, personal setting.

When it worked as intended, the effect was impressive. In a short hands-on session with Black Myth Wukong in 3D, the sense of scale and depth was especially noticeable while exploring the jungle setting, making the experience feel different from regular gameplay. Lenovo said that about 30 games now support the 3D feature through its custom software, along with native 3D video playback.

It does add an extra dimension to the game graphically, but I’m not sure how this will go in the long term over a 60-hour play.

Smarter, Faster, and AI-Optimised

In addition to its 3D features, the Legion 9i includes Lenovo’s own AI engine, which is built to optimise system performance on the fly. A representative explained that the AI constantly adjusts power use, fan speed, and graphics without any input from the user.

This is a move toward what they call ‘invisible performance management.’ While the company is clearly focused on gamers, Lenovo is also reaching out to developers and designers, presenting this as a hybrid workstation for both creative and technical work.
Legion Go S and Legion Glasses 2: Portable Power, Wearable Screens

Lenovo’s handheld gaming system, the Legion Go S

This was also there for a hands-on experience, showing a more comfortable take on the handheld PC. The controls felt natural, the build was solid, and it’s obvious Lenovo has improved the device since the first gen.

The device feels half as light as my Legion Go Gen 1 console, and the ergonomic controllers on the side let it sit comfortably in your hands. Still, the display interface feels a bit clunky and could be refined in future updates.

The Legion Glasses 2 were even more surprising. This wearable display projects a big virtual screen right in front of your eyes. Trying them for the first time, I was impressed by how crisp, bright, and much larger the image was than I expected. While it can’t fully replace a gaming monitor or cinema screen, it’s an interesting look at portable entertainment tech. On a long flight, these could easily become a favourite if you don’t feel like looking down at the device screen.

To go along with it was the Legion Go Controller

It feels similar to the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controller; you can slide off the side controllers and bring them together on a controller that combines them and sits comfortably in your hands.

Lenovo Legion Tab – your perfect couch companion

It’s been a while since I’ve looked at an Android tablet seriously, but this device seems to fit perfectly into the Spotify controller, YouTube watcher, yet also packs enough power to play mobile games on.

The screen is crisp and offers deep colours and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform. Here you can get ray tracing and up to 165 FPS. It boasts a 14% larger Legion Coldfront Vapour Chamber, which channels the heat and allows for peak gaming performance.

Final Thoughts

Lenovo’s booth at PAX Aus 2025 was more than just a hardware showcase. It highlighted how gaming technology is moving beyond its usual boundaries. With 3D immersion, AI optimisation, powerful portables and wearable screens, Lenovo Legion clearly aims to lead in both gaming and creative innovation.

A big thank you to the Lenovo team for the detailed tour. Watching the limits of performance and imagination keep moving forward is always a major highlight of PAX Aus, and Lenovo consistently bring the goods each year.
