Classic console themes are back in a new PS5 system update

Remember those awesome retro startup animations you could get on the PS5 only a few months ago? The ones they removed? Yeah, they’re back in this latest PS5 system update.

The classic console themes are inspired by the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles and will change the overall look of the PS5’s Home Screen.

While PlayStation had mentioned that these themes will return at some point, there’s no original PlayStation startup screen to be found, which is a shame.

The new update will also include an audio focus setting, which allows you to choose from a range of presets to help boost certain sounds in-game, along with three levels of strength.

  • Boost Low Pitch:  Amplify low-frequency sounds like roaring engines and rumbling noises.
  • Boost Voices: Amplify voice chats, character voices, and other middle-frequency sounds.
  • Boost High Pitch: Amplify high-frequency sounds like footsteps and metallic noises.
  • Boost Quiet Sounds: Amplify low-volume sounds in a wide range of frequencies.

But at the end of the day, it’s great to have those themes back. You can check out the entire Playstation Blog update here.
