Gamescom 2015: Mad Max gets a new trailer, still not much gameplay

Avalanche Studios’ upcoming Mad Max game looks to be a very pretty and cinematic experience. The latest trailer for the game is no exception, featuring everything we definitely want to see from a Mad Max game but is again missing a crucial element – significant gameplay.

The trailer is called Stronghold and highlights the many fortified outposts dotted throughout The Wasteland, held by the warlord Scrotus and his warboys.

Max picks apart a few of these strongholds in the trailer and chats with a number of the game’s side characters – Jeet, Gutgash, Pink Eye and Deep Friah. All of this sets the stage for the game but it still doesn’t really show us what it will be like to play it.

We’ve previously seen trailers that gave us brief glimpses of gameplay – car customisation and vehicular battles, a Batman: Arkham-esque hand-to-hand combat system – but everything else we’ve seen has been comprised largely of in-game cinematics.

Hopefully we’ll get a better look at it as the weeks before launch drop away. Mad Max arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 2.
