Gamescom 2015: Elite: Dangerous gets new expansion called Horizons

Frontier Developments have announced at new slate of DLC for their space sim Elite: Dangerous called Horizons. The new “season” of content will finally add what fans have been begging for since the game’s inception: you’ll be able to land on any of the game’s billions of planets.

The expansion will launch towards the end of the year and will run fans US$59.99. It will let players make landfall on billions of worlds scaled at 1:1 “simulated with the same commitment to realism” as the rest of Elite‘s massive gameworld. Players will be able to set up dogfights over planetary surfaces and even fly through ancient canyons.

The expansion will also include an all-terrain, wheeled vehicles called SRVs, or Surface Roving Vehicles.
