The National Theatre of Parramatta are on the lookout for fresh Australian voices in their new playwriting mentorship program

The National Theatre of Parramatta are on the look out for entrants to their inaugural playwriting program From Page to Stage.

Presented in partnership with Playwriting Australia, From Page to Stage is a free program that aims to provide playwrights with an opportunity to hone their skills; whilst also more broadly attempting to facilitate the introduction of new Australian penned work to the stage.

The program as it stands currently is only open to those living and working in Western Sydney; and all entrants must demonstrate a commitment to writing. In other words this isn’t a competition for beginners, with applicants needing to have already written at least one novel or play.

Commencing in October, ten successful applicants will then move through a 15-month course, receiving guidance and mentoring from some of the best playwrights and facilitators in the industry. Along with mentoring, workshops and tutorials the participants will also have their work considered for inclusion in the National Theatre of Parramatta’s annual season as well as the National Play Festival.

National Theatre of Parramatta Executive Producer, Joanne Kee, said “National Theatre of Parramatta is committed to building an ecosystem for the theatre in Western Sydney. It is harder for our artists to be visible beyond our communities. We know that we have stories that resonate beyond these geographic limitations. We are providing a platform to not only showcase these artists but also to develop additional networks and skills that will enable them to fine tune their craft.”

Applications to the inaugural From Page to Stage are open now and close on August 28th; with all successful entrants to be advised of their inclusion by the end of September.
