Sydney Opera House to present free livestreams of Dream, a live Shakespeare re-imagination

Sydney Opera House will present two free livestreams of The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Dream this week, a reimagined live performance based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Using gaming and motion-capture technology, Dream will conjure the ethereal surrounds of the forest of sprites and fairies, with narration of the forest by Australia’s very own, Nick Cave.

Audiences will be invited into the mythical world of Dream through an invigorating and expert symphonic score recorded by the Philharmonia Orchestra, which will also be entirely interactive for the actors on stage.

Led by the mischievous Puck, actors will manipulate music at key points during the play, to bring even more magic to their movements, and make for a truly unique and mesmerising performance.

Originally due to open in Spring 2020 at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Dream has arisen as a pioneering collaboration between Manchester International Festival, Marshmallow Laser Feast and Philharmonia Orchestra to explore how audiences can experience live performance now, and in the future.

The 50-minute performance will live stream at 9pm Thursday 18th March and then again at 9pm on Saturday 20th March.
