Northern Territory’s ‘Parrtjima – A Festival in Light’ can now be experienced online

The spectacular annual Parrtjima – A Festival in Light is now in full force, taking over the Red Centre of Northern Territory with a dazzling light display of various installations and artworks.

Located in Alice Springs Desert Park, the lively art and light festival has now been firmly established as one of Australia’s best and most important yearly events, this year with theme of “lifting our spirits”.

While domestic travel is still extremely limited, those outside of the NT have been thrown a digital treat. Even though we can’t physically be at the festival this year, Parrtjima has put together a comprehensive digital showcase to highlight the incredible way in which art operates as a function of this vast and wondrous landscape.

The 2.5-kilometre stretch of desert that lights up each night is the centre of this virtual tour, which also provides a look into the Indigenous arts, culture, music and storytelling so integral to this country and the festival’s very purpose.

Parrtjima – A Festival In Light’s virtual tour will remain in place until the festival ends on Sunday 20th September. You can watch it below.

If you like what you see, mark down the 2021 dates in that calendar. Parrtjima has now been confirmed next year for April 9-18. More information about the festival can be found here.
