The most irreverent and eclectic music and art festival, MONA FOMA (MOFO), is coming back to Australia in January 2018. The festival will return to Hobart, as well as launching an exciting Mini Mofo addition in Launceston.
The full festival line up is not expected to be released until Friday 13 October 2017, but organisers have delivered a cheeky hint at what we can expect, by having a dig at One Nation senator, Pauline Hanson, and inviting her to join in on the festivities.
The program is all about embracing an even more radical cross section of artists, genres and agendas, and in true Mofo style means reaching as diverse an audience as possible – Hence, the invitation extended to Ms Hanson.
“This could be our last festival at Mona for a while, so we really want to go out with a bang,” festival curator Brian Ritchie said.
“We parked a billboard out the front of her headquarters this morning and suggested she buy a ticket,”
“We hinted there could be a burqa wearing heavy metal band on the bill. So we’re pretty sure she’ll come.”
The Launceston Mini Mofo will run from 12-14 January, including a free festival street party for locals on the Sunday. Then Mofo will take over Hobart from 15-22 January, with a host of high profile stand-alone gigs, pop-up events and art inspired club nights around the city, culminating in Mofo at Mona from 19 – 21 January.
“We’re hoping to put on a bunch of exclusive shows in Launceston: how big we will go, you’ll have to wait and see,” Ritchie added.
