Melbourne’s ART-Town event returns to the Chapel Street Precinct next month

Melbourne event ART-Town is back for 2016, making an appearance for its seventh year. Taking place over two weekends in April, the event will see artists working in public spaces throughout the Chapel Street Precinct, where painters, illustrators, photographers, street artists, sculptors will come together to celebrate the history and diversity of the Chapel Street Precinct.

Confirmed to feature at the event so far is printmaker Tarli Bird, urban projectionist Drasko Boljevic, portrait and landscape artist Demian Carey-Gibbins. They will also be joined by Melbourne Urban Sketchers, a group who meet in public locations to draw and sketch in urban locations across the world.

For this year’s instalment, ART-Town has upped the stakes for artists submitting work to the Visual Art Award, with first prize now sitting at $5,000 and a total prize pool of $8,000. As the event focuses on celebrating local people and places, a number of retailers will also be participating, including the likes of Prahan Market and Art Boy Gallery.
