Melbourne International Jazz Festival announces A Celebration of Ella and Louis

Paying homage to the musical partnership between iconic artists Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, A Celebration of Ella and Louis  will open the Melbourne International Jazz Festival in early June.

Grammy Award winning vocalist Patti Austin and renowned Australian jazz musician James Morrison will join forces with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to perform hits from the Great American Songbook.

Austin’s festival appearance follows on from her 2012 shows For Ella, making her perfect to take on the iconic songs brought to life by The First Lady of Song.

Melbourne International Jazz Festival Artistic Director, Michael Tortoni, said, “I cannot think of better artists than Patti Austin, James Morrison and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to bring this wonderful celebration to life in the centenary of Ella’s birth – it is the ideal way to open the Festival’s 20th anniversary program.”

A Celebration of Ella and Louis takes place at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on June 2nd and June 3rd 2017.

Tickets are on sale now and are available through the Melbourne International Jazz Festival website and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra website.
