Blanc de Blanc Encore brings burlesque, acrobatics and bubbly to Spiegel Haus Melbourne

What better way to celebrate the grand opening of Spiegel Haus Melbourne, a new entertainment venue in the heart of the CBD, than with a sexy, sultry and seductive adults-only spectacle? Blanc de Blanc Encore is a sensual mix of cabaret, circus and comedy, turning this eclectic Melbourne venue into a Parisian, champagne-fuelled delight for the night.

The velvet-draped, mirror-lined spiegeltent is as integral to the experience as the high-flying acrobatic acts. Prior to the show’s antics kicking off, the venue is softly toned with alluring hues and the stage illuminated by a single spotlight, invoking an immediately arousing atmosphere that’s only amplified as the production gets underway.

Unpredictable would be an understatement when it comes to the diversity of performances that make up this dazzling production. From daring aerial acrobatics to sultry burlesque acts and outrageous comedic gags, the impeccably talented seven-piece cast blends sexy and funny in a way that’s seamless from start to finish. Each segment bleeds into the next, tied together with transitions that are either sensual or hilarious, or occasionally both. Some acts may take up slightly more time than others, but the rapid pace at which it swaps between each performance means the night absolutely flies by. At two hours long with an intermission, it’s a speedy production that doesn’t waste a second of downtime; always ensuring there’s something happening on or off the stage to fill the room with resounding laughter or collective awe.

Danielle Summers takes to the skies as the show’s aerialist, executing two grand set-pieces with grace, elegance and class. Her aerial hoop work is one of the show’s highlights; suspended above the stage, she twirls, spins and manoeuvres her way through a variety of acrobatic poses, showcasing an impressive feat of strength, balance and coordination. She returns to the stage in the second act for yet another spellbinding act, suspended from a pole upside down while pouring champagne into the glasses of the audience below. The grace and beauty that Summers brings to the night is unmatched, with my only possible complaint being that we didn’t get to see even more of her circus capabilities.

Responsible for some of the show’s more comedic flourishes, Emile Mathieu and Felix Pouliot deliver laughs aplenty as the night’s zany emcee duo. Their antics spread from act to act, interacting with the audience in moments that are wildly funny and shocking in the best possible way. Their talents as circus artists shine through every moment they appear on stage, exhibiting risqué nudity and silly comedic hijinks to keep the audience laughing and wanting more. More important than their silly antics are their chemistry and infectious energy. If the crowd ever felt unsure or hesitant to get involved in the chaos of the night, their charm and encouragement worked in boosting audience engagement and creating a fun, safe and encouraging atmosphere.

It’s not a circus experience without the mindboggling talents of contortionist Mykhailo Makarov. His hyper-flexible, almost bone-breaking movements drew shock, awe and audible gasps from the audience, pushing the bounds of the human body beyond anything we could have imagined. Rounding out the cast are the local talents of Clara Fable, Melanie Hawkins and Flynn Miller, each of whom contribute memorably sexy moments to the show. Fable’s role as the resident songstress breaks up the laughs with short, sweet and saucy musical numbers, while Hawkins heats the spiegeltent with spicy burlesque choreography that piqued the excitement of the audience.

Crowd engagement and involvement are at an all-time high in this production, so if you’ve ever wanted to get involved in the fun of a circus/cabaret experience, this could be your lucky night. From riotous pillow fights and champagne pouring all the way to singling out audience members for a few minutes in the spotlight, Blanc de Blanc Encore is a communal affair that encourages lively reactions and carefree joy.

Without a dull moment in sight, this fusion of burlesque, cabaret and circus acrobatics is nothing short of a must-see. Blanc de Blanc Encore is a dazzling spectacle worthy of its Spiegel Haus setting, gifting Melbourne with a night of alluring costumes, bubbly personalities and an electrifying contemporary soundtrack that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Get ready to pop some champagne and envelop yourself in the pure joy and sensuality of Melbourne’s hottest cabaret experience.
