Art Month Sydney 2016 announces full program of events and exhibitions

Art Month Sydney 2016, headed for the first by time by Artistic Director Barry Keldoulis, have announced their full program presented from 1st until 20th March.

In addition to the popular Collectors’ Space and Art At Night events, this year will feature Green Eyed Monster Eating its Own Tail, a new exhibition curated specifically for Art Month 2016. The program also includes a dynamic line up of talks and tours, spread across a number of Sydney locations and historic hot spots.

To celebrate the Opening Night on Tuesday 1st March, Sydney-siders are invited to the Eveleigh creative precinct, where Beau Neilson will open the doors to a yet to be experienced creative warehouse, featuring performances, a Cake Wines cellar door, and a large garage space specifically curated for the evening.

Amongst the program’s highlights are:

Starting A Collection 101 (March 5th 1130pm), a free event featuring industry leaders offering tips and insights on how to buy art. The guest speakers will give an overview of what to look for, who to speak to and where to go to get that art collection that will be the envy of your friends and colleagues.

Disrupting Tradition (March 8th 6pm), is a free panel looking at the re-emergence of traditional art within the contemporary context. Speakers include AGNSW Curator Suhanya Raffel, artist Liam Benson, artist, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran, and 4A curator Toby Chapman.

What the Kids Think (March 12th 3pm), explores what it is like to be brought up in the art world, with children of prominent arts figures revealing how it has affected the way they see and experience both art and the world. Speakers include: Celia Bradshaw, Evan Hughes, Anna Shapiro, and Maddie Love.

Newtown Graffiti Tour with Culture Scouts (March 12th 1030am), is one of several walking tours that display the highlights Sydney’s street art, taking participants to discover something different about Sydney.

Artcycle explore different art neighborhoods each week by bike between the 3rd and 20th March. The tours take place both during the day and at night, discovering the galleries and art spaces of a variety of Sydney neighborhoods. Artists Salote Tawale (20 March, 11am – 3pm) and Diego Bonetto (19 March, 11am – 3pm) feature as guest tour guides, taking participants through art neighborhoods to hear from gallerists and artists at each stop.
