Adelaide Fringe Festival Review & Photos: The Kinsey Sicks’ DRAGAPELLA will leave you in stitches (Performances at Studio 7 until 19th March)

The Kinsey Sicks are “America’s Favorite Dragapella Beautyshop Quartet” and it’s easy to see why. With patriotic red white and blue costumes straight from the fifties, and four part harmonies of your favorite songs over the last twenty-three years, these girls know how throw to party. A tupperware party, that is.

The four girls: Trixie, Trampolina, Winnie and Rachel launch into songs with gusto, transforming simple pure songs into cringe worthy ditties stuffed with double entendres. A pacifier here a butt plug there, who knows what will happen next?

The audience are in stitches from the get go, and the girls play the parts perfectly. Oh and there’s audience interaction, especially with Rachel, who needs to be dragged away from someone who spots her eye on more than one occasion. Although the front row is obviously a target, don’t be fooled into thinking that you can hide at the back.

One ‘lucky boy’ with dubious links to New Zealand was pulled up on stage to be feted and adored. You get the impression that people don’t say no to whatever the Kinsey Sicks want.

Along the way we learn about each of the girls lives. Like Trampolina’s girlfriend who became her boyfriend as she launches into a rousing rendition of “Oh, Tranny Boy”. Or the difficulties the girls had with Australian customs and their sex toys – “Waltzing my dildo, you’ll waltz my dildo in me…”

All too soon the show nears the end, another person is invited up onstage and the grand finale comes crashing down. This is a show that proves that innocence is not dead; it’s wrapped up in bows in the bottom drawer of your bedroom. Dragapella is a polished and funny show that will leave you in stitches.

DRAGAPELLA plays out at Studio 7 in the Garden of Unearthly Delights until March 19th. For tickets and more details, head HERE.
