Hip hop fans have been aching for a world tour announcement from J. Cole ever since the top-shelf emcee released The Fall Off last week, his already universally acclaimed double-album and allegedly his final release.
“Don’t leave while you’re hot, that’s how Mase screwed up” – Kanye West.
It’s rare to see an emcee that’s still so embedded in pop culture, at the height of their talents, walk away from the mic with intention and purpose.
But then again, J. Cole has never been the average rapper.
Ever since he came out of the gate with first single “Who Dat,” hip hop fans around the world have watched the man’s every move. Over the years, he has put out some of the most consistently important, thoughtful and essential work in the culture, and from KOD to The Off-Season, it’s clear that we haven’t even seen the depths of his talent.
Those depths will be studied over the next few months while fans really digest The Fall Off, a sprawling, wordy and deeply intellectual record that amalgamates his best traits, and refines them constantly.
By the time J Cole brings his world tour to Australia in December, we’ll know every word of every song. That kind of atmosphere at a hip hop concert is unmatched, and especially rare outside of the USA.
The pre-sale, which started today on 18th February, has implied such high demand that Live Nation have already added a few extra dates.
As of now, J Cole will be performing in Brisbane once, Melbourne twice, Sydney twice, and Auckland once.
General sale tickets are available from 11am on Friday 20th February from Live Nation.
