Did you know Grace Jones has never performed at the Sydney Opera House?
Tragic, I know. Jones, one of the most enigmatic and diverse pop singers of our time, has performed in Sydney a handful of times throughout her career, but she has never filed into our most iconic performing arts venue.
That’ll change in just a few weeks as the avant-garde icon helps close out this season’s Forcourt Series.
For one night only, the pioneering multi-hyphenate will bring her greatest hits to the outdoor stage, playing right by the harbour, with a set spanning her entire discography. That means you’ll hear some of the singer’s most definitive singles like “I Need a Man” and “La Vie en Rose” as the Sydney Opera House forecourt turns into Studio 54.
The Jamaican-born former fashion model has influenced everything, from Rihanna to Massive Attack, so even those unfamiliar with her work should find the warmth of nostalgia in these notes. Songs like “Pull Up to the Bumper” and “Slave to the Rhythm” were points of origin for a lot of these modern sounds, and so we’re expecting a multi-generational crowd to show up for the pop genius.
