UK chaos-pop breakout Freak Slug (Xenya Genovese) is heading to Australia for the first time this October, locking in a run of east coast shows following the release of her debut LP I Blow Out Big Candles.
The Manchester-born artist has been steadily gaining traction for her punchy dream-punk tracks, pulling in praise from The Fader, NPR and Clash. Her sound is scrappy lo-fi with gorgeous bright vocals, equal parts bratty and vulnerable. Freak Slug is part of a new wave of UK underground acts, stitching together distortion-heavy guitars with bite. Now, she’s set to bring that same off-centre energy with a headline tour that includes stop at SXSW Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
It’s her first time playing in Australia, but she’s already built a strong rep on the international circuit, racking up appearances at Latitude and Leeds Festival in the UK and a sold-out headline run across Europe and US.
