The Music That Made Us: Pigeon (Brisbane)

Having just released their new EP Settle In, and about to head off on tour in support of it, Brisbane’s Pigeon filled the AU review in on their favourite records as part of our new series “The Music That Made Us” – a title indeed inspired by a recent tour around Australia featuring a group of incredible Australian female singer/songwriters. But I digress… let’s enjoy this selection of amazing music!

Aaron Day: Fat Freddy’s drop – Dr. Boondigga and the Big BW

This album has so many intelligently catchy rhythms that don’t necessarily catch on right away, but it never leaves a face without a smile. The memories shared over this record, from filthy house parties to long days at the beach, this one is top of my bucket list!

Chris Paget: Radiohead – In Rainbows

This was one of those albums that had me at the first listen and I can still listen to it through in full today and love every moment of it. Some awesome up beat movements like 15 Steps and as well as some super super low, heart wrenching tunes like All I Need… This album has all the emotions! I was never a massive Radiohead fan but after In Rainbow I went back and explored their whole back catalogue. Amazing!

Luke Cuerel: The Cat Empire – Self-Titled

The most fun, party album in the history of fun party albums. Also, dem trumpets.

Danny Harley: Jonsi – Go Do

I love this album because it’s a slightly more upbeat take on Sigur Ros. I love Sigur Ros too but this album was just perfect start to finish. It has amazing textural complexity and great song depth which means that it’s an album I can re-visit pretty much forever.

Nick Kirk: Nine Inch Nails – The Fragile

The Fragile, in my opinion is Nine Inch Nails best work and It sums up everything I like about them. While I’m not the hugest fan of them in the last few years, Nine Inch Nails were pretty much responsible for me finding my own way to producing music and appreciating electronic music. This album is so damn epic and it some how didn’t leave my cd player for over a year when I was still in high school and is probably the album that had the biggest impact on my life.
