Washed Out announces December tour dates

The soundtrack for this summer comes courtesy of Washed Out, the musical outlet for Ernest Greene. The flag bearer of the chillwave movement will be bringing his warm, laid back sound to Australia this December.

Prior to June 2009, Ernest was producing music from his bedroom studio in the small town of Perry, Georgia. He would pass cassettes around to his friends but had never intended on releasing anything official. After uploading a few songs to MySpace in July, Washed Out was quickly discovered by the influential blog world. A whirlwind of activity followed with a sold out CMJ showcase in October and eight shows at SXSW in March of 2010, US tours with the likes of Beach House and Yeasayer and the release of his debut Life Of Leisure EP.

Washed Out will perform at the Oxford Art Factory in Sydney and Melbourne’s The Toff In Town, as well as appearing at the sold out Meredith Music Festival.

“Chillwave, dream-pop, glo-fi, whatever – sub-genre classifications count for nothing if the music they describe isn’t up to much. Fortunately for Georgia-based solo artist Ernest Weatherly Greene, aka Washed Out, his output is of a refined quality amongst several protagonists of the blogosphere’s present pigeonhole fixation. These are sounds to surround, to sweep up broken men and make them whole again.” BBC
