BIGSOUND Live: Highlights of Night Two - Part Three (10.09.15)

Tired Lion at BIGSOUND Live

My second night of BIGSOUND brought just as much variety as the first. With so many artists to see it’s always a matter of ‘trade-offs,’ but here are just a few highlights from the night!

Tired Lion change headline Sydney show after winning triple J's Unearthed Splendour in the Grass competition.

Perth's Tired Lion join the likes of KINGSWOOD, Millions and Art vs Science in being the latest winners of triple J's Unearthed competition for Splendour in the Grass! The band will be opening the festival on July 24th, but this has meant that they've had to slightly rejig their headline show in Sydney as a result. Tired Lion will now be performing a special headline set as part of their Figurine EP launch tour at the GoodGod Small Club in Sydney on July 22nd.

Perth's Tired Lion Announce Figurine EP Launch Tour!

For a band who's break out hit is 'I Don't Think You Like Me', Tired Lion are doing pretty well on the popularity front. They've supported some of the most hyped tours of the last year - including Kingswood and The 1975 - and now they're poised to try and take on the country on their own. The upcoming tour, which is in support of their second EP Figurine, kicks off this July in Brisbane. Check it out then, and while you're waiting, have a look at their Like A Version mash-up of Smashing Pumpkins' "1979" and Violent Soho's "Saramona Said" which is doing the rounds (it's at the end of the article in case you missed it!)

Feature: Five emerging artists from Perth you need to have in your life right now

There's nothing better than discovering a band before they break into the market. You get to see them earn their chops while you stand front and centre, learning every song and becoming one of their first fans. But sometimes it helps to have an idea about where to look! Over the past two weeks, we've been traversing the country and bringing you some of our favourite new discoveries in the local scene. We finish up in Perth today, where these five artists, in no particular order, call home:

The next stop for Kingswood's Microscopic Wars II tour was Capitol in Perth where they put on an awesome show. Supporting them were Perth's very own Tired Lion. Stuart Sevastos was there and brings us these photos from the night:

Groovin' The Moo just got a whole lot bigger with the addition of a number of local names to each leg of the national tour. The festival kicks off over ANZAC Day weekend in Oakbank, the SA leg being introduced to the wider bill for the first time in 2014. Check out the additions to each date of the Groovin' The Moo tour below and grab your tickets while they still last!

Single Stream: Tired Lion "I Don't Think You Like Me" (2015)

Guys, if you've not cottoned onto Perth's Tired Lion yet, now is the damn time to. One of the breakout Australian bands of last year, we've been digging on this four-piece's sound, perfectly wrapped up and released in the form of their debut EP, All We Didn't Know. Now comes the first taste of the sophomore Tired Lion EP in new single, "I Don't Think You Like Me". Melodic, edgy and passionate, the track highlights the dynamic between the members of this band as they fit together so well as a performing unit.

The WA music scene is without question among the finest in this country. I dare say it gives Melbourne a run for its money, winning out with its vast and eclectic nature. From experimental electronic to psychedelic rock, pop grooves and indie beats, there is something to be found for everyone here. It's what makes this list so difficult - no two bands were the same. But that said, there were a few favourites that stuck out from my weekend in Perth. Here are the WA bands you need to check out:
