——————————

“Mark E Smith’s scabrous wit, defiant strangeness and constant invention still continue to put newer pretenders to shame” – NME

““One of the bands to see before you die” – Q Magazine

“The Fall will abide: they have broken out of time, and exist slightly away from the rest of us. They are … “Invincible”” – BBC

Civil Society is proud to announce the Australian tour of seminal English post-punk band The Fall. The infamous rockers are bringing their bristling brand of social complaint to Australia for an exclusive run of headline shows for the first time in over 20 years.

The Fall are the pre-eminent live band of the modern day, performing regularly in the UK, Europe and the US, this year entering their 34th year with their 28th studio album. Led by the enigmatic Mark E Smith, this Manchester-based outfit offers a unique mixture of musical styles, delivered as an uncompromising and unforgettable live experience.

Despite being named Vice Magazine’s #3 ‘SEMINAL BAND That You Say You Love but Never Actually Listen to’, not many will forget the use of the band’s seminal track Hip Priest from the classic album Hex Enduction Hour capping the of the film Silence of the Lambs.

Their approach to music is nothing if not divisive, generating strong opinions and a cult status. About their 1997 album Levitate, Steven Wells, NME (11 October 1997) wrote, “Imagine pop without perimeters. Imagine rock without rules. Imagine art without the wank. If you’ve never heard The Fall then Levitate will be either the best or the worst record you’ve ever heard.”

The Fall have constantly changed their approach to work over their thirty year history – mining the group’s back catalogue reveals many different musicians contributing to the sound of the group. A rich history of provocative and exciting material can be drawn from the extensive back catalogue – none more so than from the phenomenal Peel Box Set which stretches across the entire timeline of the group.

The band were legendary UK DJ John Peel’s favourite group and this excellent release has gems from the group’s incomparable run of sessions on the much-missed DJ’s radio programme. Peel summed up the Fall memorably with the phrase “Always different, always the same”.

Constantly refreshed with a revolving line-up of musicians The Fall is continually re-inventing itself around the core of Mark E Smith – the band’s founder, and his partner Elena Poulou.

Universally admired by lovers of refreshing and challenging music, the band are recognised as one of the most influential groups of their generation. They are without doubt living legends.

Civil Society is proud to bring The Fall to Australia for the first time in 2 decades. Performing this December in 3 exclusive headlining shows, in addition to their appearance at Meredith Music Festival, make sure you don’t miss out on witnessing this band’s legendary scorn and energy on their very rare appearance in Australia.
