Splendour in the Grass 2016 arts lineups announced

Splendour in the Grass 2016 is almost upon us, and with that comes the announcement of its arts programs – Splendour Arts and Splendour in the Craft.

This year’s Splendour Arts will feature six major pieces scattered across the events site, curated by artist Craig Walsh.

The Arch Tunnel Response, a site responsive painting by Melbourne artist Ash Keating, will dominate the entrance to the festival, while Bennet Miller‘s immersive experience The Barn returns to the Upper Downs area. Sam Songalio‘s Program 2 will invite festival goers to be ‘test subjects’, releasing them into his latest artwork and watching their reactions unfold. The Tent of Miracles, presented by Andy Forbes, will invite guests and their three-night-stands to tie the knot, in an inflatable church, inspired by freak shows and circuses. The infamous poop emoji will also make an artistic appearance, in the form of Mr Poopie – don’t be scared, it’s only ice cream!

2016 sees a video arts space added to the program for the first time. This year’s featured artist is Shaun Gladwell, who will exhibit four pieces in the Rendered art space over the course of the weekend.

Splendour in the Craft will also return to the festival site, offering an array of free workshops from some of Australia’s most creative crafters, while Aussie indie band The Grates will be running a tea room over the weekend, so guests can grab a red skin cookie while they wait for the Spotlight team to fix their festival wear and tear at the Mend It Like Beckham stall.
