Live Review: mewithoutYou + Elliot The Bull + Stranger Things Have Happened + Sincerely, Grizzly - Adelaide UniBar (24.01.15)

“This song is about a bear committing suicide”. That's how mewithoutYou singer Aaron Weiss introduced their second to last song of their set in Adelaide's UniBar on the 24th of January. It's that kind of thing – the song was 'Bears Vision of St Agnes' from Ten Stories, by the way – that sums up the blend of bizarrely entertaining and deeply maudlin that mewithoutYou bring to both their live show and their albums.

Live Review: Cloud Nothings + Sincerely, Grizzly + West Thebarton Brothel Party - Adelaide Unibar (09.12.14)

I've been attending shows in this fine city for years now and still, the concept of have a decently attended gig on a weeknight freaks me out slightly. Sure, there has been a nice resurgence in a love of live music within the community over the past few years especially, but as I stand inside the Adelaide Unibar, a venue which soon may be no more, I'm still a bit worried that people won't turn up to play for our international guests tonight. Cloud Nothings had added an Adelaide date to their short run of Meredith Festival sideshows and I was stoked to finally be able to see the Ohio rock band perform, having missed them at the clusterfuck of a festival that was Laneway 2013.

Live Review: Sincerely, Grizzly + Bad//Dreems - Ding Dong Lounge, Melbourne (21.11.14)

Sadtime music certainly has made a comeback throughout the last year. The more heart wrenching the better seems to be the rule, with accolades going out to Sun Kil Moon's Benji, Perfect Pussy and Run the Jewels new albums and the increasing re emergence of emo in popular culture (as evidenced by almost everything I've written on this site) shows just how sad everyone's collective thoughts have become. So it's no wonder that the local scene have taken up this property. And last Friday I got the chance to witness one of the best in this scene; Adelaide's Sincerely, Grizzly.

the AU interview: Joshua Calligeros of Sincerely, Grizzly (Adelaide) on the release of 'Halves', band dynamics and more!

This Friday, Adelaide's Sincerely, Grizzly will release their debut album, Halves. A meticulous two year writing and recording period was the creative process behind the album, but the end result is one where you can hear the hard work and effort poured into the music. The film clip for their latest single, "Catholic Guilt", premiered on triple j's Dom Alessio's Home and Hosed blog yesterday and with the official album launch set for this Saturday, frontman Joshua Calligeros is feeling pretty good about it all.

Album Review: Sincerely, Grizzly - Halves (2014 LP)

On previous Sincerely, Grizzly EPs, you can get a strong idea of where this Adelaide trio's influences lay. They also demonstrated the band's ambitious approach to arrangement and layering of sound which, over the course of the past year and a half especially, has been brilliantly worked for live shows around the country. Their debut album Halves, however, has taken some time in seeing the light of day, recorded over a two year period and earning a great deal of hype as a result of the busy year Sincerely, Grizzly have had on the road. Finally being released this week, Halves is well worth the wait and it's a fitting debut album for a band who has been putting as much effort into developing for themselves a strong and determined presence on the live front as they have in the studio.

Live Review: Dune Rats + Sincerely, Grizzly + Horror My Friend - Adelaide Unibar (14.06.14)

Walking into the Unibar to see Brisbane band Dune Rats on Saturday night, I was surprised to see that the venue was already packed considerably early in the night! With local Adelaide bands Horror My Friend and Sincerely, Grizzly playing as supporting bands, the atmosphere was already pumping and the vibe was buzzing. It was great to see so many Adelaide fans make an effort to arrive early and support the local bands and rock out to the music.
