Album Review: Seth Sentry - Strange New Past (2015 LP)

When it comes to hip hop, lately I have been hard pressed to find an Australian album that I am content to sit the whole way through without skipping songs. Consistently it’s the same drawl, 90’s beats, recycled lyrics and a bogan Australian accent rhyming every second word with a curse word. That was, until I stumbled across Melbourne MC Seth Sentry’s Strange New Past with witty lyrics, amazing production and a barrage of emotions this album has gone far and beyond.

Live Review: Seth Sentry + Citizen Kay + Coin Banks- Metro Theatre, Sydney (13.03.15)

Hip Hop has always had a mixed relationship with the public. A lot of the time there’s been two crowds: the first being conservatives or traditionalists not willing to embrace anything new who rely on their ‘rap is spelled with a silent c’ jokes; while the second group embraces everything about hip hop, from the lyrics, to the genre, scenes and milieus within the community. The crowd on the Autumn Friday night at Sydney’s Metro Theatre were firmly in the latter group, all there willingly and getting ready to rap and sing along to Australian emcee Seth Sentry.
