Live Review: Neil Finn - Sydney Opera House (19.03.14)

Immediately prior to Neil Finn’s performance at the Sydney Opera House, I was having a discussion with a friend about the notion of relevance in the modern music industry. In a landscape dominated by what is 'trending’ - which people have unbridled access to and are constantly seeking out music that is weeks, days or hours old - keeping an audience’s attention for even just two albums is a triumph that eludes most artists.

Live Review: Neil Finn + Joshua James - Hamer Hall, Melbourne (12.03.14)

Joshua James, from Salt Lake City, Utah, opened tonight’s show at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall. Appearing in duo form with long time guitarist and backing vocalist Evan Coulombe, the young man’s intense delivery, earnest persona and delicate yet gruff voice were immediately arresting.

Live Review: MAX Sessions with Neil Finn feat. Eddie Vedder - Seymour Centre (29.01.14)

Neil Finn is one of those New Zealanders we’d love to claim as our own. He recently filmed a show for Max Sessions and the program was a star-studded affair. It saw Finn preview songs from his forthcoming solo album, Dizzy Heights and dip into his enviable discography of tunes accumulated over 40 years, starting with Split Enz, then visiting a Crowded House, doffing a cap at the Finn Brothers and having a romp at Pajama Club. In short, it was exquisite.

Festival Review: The Falls Music and Arts Festival, Day Three & Four - Lorne, Victoria (30.12.13 - 31.12.13)

It was day three of Falls 2013, and the only thing thicker in the air than the smell of overflowing long drops was the feeling of excitement for the incredible acts that were soon to grace the stages.

As the sun rises over the bleary eyed campers at Erskine Falls, the music begins from both the Valley Stage and the Grand Theatre. Violent Soho, Pond and The Wombats were some of the standout acts, while Neil Finn had the crowd participating in a good old-fashioned singalong. Vydamo is pictured above. Festival Review: The Falls Music and Arts Festival, Day Three - Marion Bay, Tasmania (31.12.13)

New Years Eve is a time for celebration and, unless you’re headed to some exotic overseas location, there are few better ways to celebrate than with your closest friends, 12 000 neighbours and some of the biggest artists the world over. True, The Wombats may have missed the official countdown in Marion Bay, but then there’s nothing like a bit of confusion and chaos to kick off the new year with a bang.
