Festival Review: Lollapalooza Berlin - Tempelhof Airport, Germany (12.09.15 & 13.09.15)

Photo: Stephan Flad.

Lollapalooza branched out into Europe for the first time over the weekend, taking Berlin's Tempelhof Airport by storm. The sold out event drew huge numbers of music fans down to the defunct airport (one of the coolest festival venues I've been too, I'll add) for some brilliant sets by artists who've been away for a little while, some of the biggest names touring at the moment and some recent festival favourites. Having attended Lollapalooza in Chicago last year, I felt like I was going into this one at least a little prepared, but Berlin's festival game was another beast in itself.

FFS & Deichkind impress, while Macklemore & Ryan Lewis draw 50,000+ to close out Night One of Lolla Berlin!

The first day and night of the inaugural European extension of Lollapalooza came to a close at the Tempelhof Airport on Saturday, with hip-hop, rock and roll and dance music setting up a killer final few hours for punters to power on through to. With perfect weather conditions, an excellent venue and a solid line up of internationally renowned acts performing promptly throughout the Lollapalooza Berlin's first day, festival goers were spoiled for choice when it came not only to the variety of food options on offer, but musical fare too.

Following on from the release, the New York duo will be returning to Australia for another round at Splendour in the Grass, not to mention some special headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney. It's the first opportunity fans down this way will have to see Max Hershenow and Lizzy Plapinger in their element on stage for some time and after seeing what the new shows are shaping up to be like at SXSW earlier in the year, these upcoming shows are going to be ones not to be missed.

Splendour in the Grass Sideshows: MS MR returning to Melbourne and Sydney in July!

MS MR were definitely one of the standout bands we were able to see at SXSW recently, that is, when we could worm our way into the crowds that were packed out for them each time! With a new album being prepared for a July release, Australians can be getting around Lizzy and Max soon when they play Melbourne and Sydney as well as the sold out Splendour in the Grass.

SXSW Live Music Review: Neon Gold Showcase ft. MS MR, Marina and The Diamonds & more - Empire (21.03.15)

The Neon Gold label hosted its showcase at Empire on the final night of SXSW, taking over both the Control Room and the Outdoor Stage and bringing together some fantastic bands - both established and up and coming - from Australia, the UK and America together for one final night of fun chaos.

MS MR premiere new album tracks at SXSW

MS MR’s debut, 2013’s Secondhand Rapture, was an almost perfect distillation of their sound aesthetic: dark, dramatic electro pop, undercut with thudding bass riffs and trap inspired percussion. Coupled with the crackling intensity of Lizzy Plapinger’s vocals, it was an intriguing and highly successful combination, propelling them to fame and a much-hyped performance at 2013’s Splendour In The Grass.

Album News Weekly: 3 June 2014

In This Issue: A nice short list this week, but it's still crammed full of cool stuff. MS MR have put out another mix tape, Jonathon Boulet is releasing a new one, and 50 Cent came out of nowhere and dropped his new record last week! Heaps more inside, have a read!
