Festival Review: The Falls Music and Arts Festival (Day Three) - Byron Bay, NSW (02.01.14)

The final day’s bill was ostensibly much more low key than its predecessor, yet there were plenty of acts - both well known and not - vying for our eyes and ears. Triple J Unearthed alumni Oliver Tank got through the main stage nerves to play his familiar set to the early birds, while former Unearthed High winner Asta continued to thank the crowd for making her dreams come true. She performed with the charisma of a much more experienced artist, but until her songwriting improves, she simply won’t make a genuine connection with her audience - who in this case were largely unmoved.

Festival Review: The Falls Music and Arts Festival, Day One & Two - Lorne, Victoria (28.12.13 - 29.12.13)

Falls Festival 2013: four days, three bottles of vodka, zero showers, countless slices of pizza and all in all one unforgettable experience. As a Falls rookie, I had no idea what to expect when embarking on the four day festival adventure… But as I sit here, nursing the worst flu I’ve ever contracted in my life, unable to keep my eyes open for more than two hours at a time, all I can think about is the countdown to next year's festival (and wondering where on Earth I can get a breakfast pizza as amazing as the one I ate every morning for four days, #cleaneating).

Festival Review: The Falls Music and Arts Festival, Day Three - Marion Bay, Tasmania (31.12.13)

New Years Eve is a time for celebration and, unless you’re headed to some exotic overseas location, there are few better ways to celebrate than with your closest friends, 12 000 neighbours and some of the biggest artists the world over. True, The Wombats may have missed the official countdown in Marion Bay, but then there’s nothing like a bit of confusion and chaos to kick off the new year with a bang.

The second day of the Falls Festival is held down in the Valley. The Murlocs and The Smith Street Band got the crowd pumping early. The Village opens with biscuit readings, face painting and Larry's bosch hammer drill tattoos. The night closed with MGMT and The Roots. Our photographer John Goodridge was there to bring you photos of the event.

Album Review: MGMT - Self Titled (2013 LP)

MGMT have been riding the wave of success consistently for the past five years now. They have steadily released an album every three years since their conception. This month their third album, a self-titled LP, has been released. They tend to be psychedelic rock, but they have had a more pop-heavy orientation in the past. These ten tracks are no exception to playful melodies and space themes.
