Live Review: Johnny Marr + Flyying Colours - Enmore Theatre, Sydney (20.07.15)

Should Johnny Marr be re-named 'Johnny Young'? That was the question at Marr’s Enmore show in Sydney on Monday night. And it wasn’t because he resembled the former host of Young Talent Time but because the former Smiths guitarist oozed energy and charisma. This was definitely a case of a charming man looking half his age but playing with the virtuosity of a hardened axeman over double his age.

Johnny Marr

Adelaide was treated to a stellar gig by the charming Johnny Marr on an otherwise cold and miserable Tuesday night. Performing a mix of his solo material, songs from The Smiths' catalogue as well as a few choice covers, it was one of the best gig's of the year. Kerrie Geier was there for the AU review.

"It's Tuesday, isn't it? Fuck, man..." Johnny Marr has come to Adelaide off the back of successful shows in Sydney and Perth and on a freezing cold Tuesday night, fans have rocked up enthusiastic and willing. Seeing Marr perform in the surrounds of The Gov is an opportunity obviously not lost on the hundreds that have piled into the venue tonight, the vibe is cosy and warm and perfect for a few hours of straight up rock and roll done with that flair that has become one of the most talked about elements of Marr's live shows in recent times.

Live Review: Flyying Colours - The Grace Darling Hotel (18.05.13)

Precious little has been said about the band Flyying Colours, but, most likely, that is about to change with the release of their single “Wavy Gravy”. Saturday night at the lovely Grace Darling Hotel, was the official album launch. Band promoters (or perhaps the band members) employed a clever marketing strategy. The first hundred punters through the door received a copy of the aforementioned single, and had the opportunity to see three great bands for the measly sum of ten bucks. Certainly the night was great value.
