Our 12 Favourite Records of 2012... so far...

We're at the halfway mark of the year, and for us at The AU Review, it usually means that we take time to reflect on all the releases that made an impact over the last six months. We asked our contributors to cough up and confess on what their favourite albums are, whether it was an LP or EP, and most importantly, why they chose the featured albums. You're probably wondering if one of your preferred records made the cut. Well, the wait is over. I am proud to present: Our 12 Favourite Records (So Far) of 2012!

Live Review: Kaiser Chiefs + Deep Sea Arcade - The Hi-Fi, Sydney (15.05.12)

Kaiser Chiefs are responsible for some of the most lauded Britpop anthems of the past few years, dating all the way back to 2007 and their critically acclaimed debut Employment. So when the ever-growing Groovin’ the Moo festival rope the popular UK band into headlining their biggest line-up yet, you can be sure you can be sure excitement spread quickly.

The AU Crew Poll: What album are you listening to most right now?

Welcome back to another installment of The AU Crew Poll! This time we asked our lovely contributors to tell us which albums are currently on high rotation and why. The variety of responses not only reflect the diversity of music tastes, but also how far in the past they went, as there were mentions of albums released over the last decade. Here are what some of our contributors had to say...

Deep Sea Arcade will start their national tour this June to celebrate the release of their debut album Outlands.

Live Review: Children Collide + Deep Sea Arcade + Palms - Metro Theatre (24.03.12)

The presence of diversity made for an entertaining evening at the Metro Theatre, be it exhibitionists proudly lassoing their sweaty shirts, the blindsighted raising their sticks in unison, the older folks putting in their ear plugs for added comfort or lapping up next to the majority of the ludicrously loud young’uns and watching them crowd-surf, mosh, initiate piggybacks and leave all gig etiquette out the door.

Album Review: Deep Sea Arcade - Outlands (2012 LP)

Deep Sea Arcade have been under our noses for quite some time, but have made us wait quite a while for something substantial to grasp onto. They have graced our ears with standout singles including “Lonely In Your Arms”, “Keep On Walking” and “Girls”, and have been hammered on Triple J. But for fans, their debut LP, Outlands, has been a long time coming.

Our 10 Most Anticipated Album Releases of 2012 (Australia/NZ Edition)

If you were wondering why our previous installment of 'Most Anticipated Album Releases of 2012' didn't feature any local acts... there was a reason for that. We have debated, deliberated and pulled many strands of hair in wishing that more could be included in the list. However, the following native heroes made the cut... in no particular order:

12 Australian Bands to watch in 2012... and 5 from overseas...

Jumping on the bandwagon, here, in no particular order, are twelve Australian bands we're looking out for in 2012... five bands from overseas we're predicting big things for here in Australia... AND a couple of Australian bands the rest of the world should have their eye on! Madness! Read on...
