the AU interview: Max Bemis From Say Anything (USA) talks "Hebrews" and upcoming Australian tour

You've probably got a few preconceived notions about Max Bemis, lead singer of aggressively eclectic indie-pop-punk-electro band Say Anything, but he's very cool and a lot calmer than the frenetic energy of Say Anything would have you believe. Ruby Niemann spoke with frontman Max Bemis about Hebrews, fatherhood, and Australia in anticipation of the tour later this year.

Live Review: Soundwave Festival - Flemington Racecourse (01.03.13)

When one goes to Soundwave there is always the problem of ‘which bands should I see?’ With a lineup as impressive as this years there was always bound to be numerous clashes and overlapping sets. Prior to walking in the gates I had planned on spending the majority of my day at the main stages but within minutes that changed. For starters the stages were actually quite far apart meaning that should I camp a spot at one stage I would miss the band on the alternate stage. Secondly, the crowd at this years festival was huge. A large step up from the more intimate atmosphere that came with the festivals old home at the Melbourne Showgrounds. So with that, I made an early decision to spread my day among the other stages.

Festival Review: Soundwave - Bonython Park, Adelaide (02.03.13)

Oh Soundwave. You’ve had some ups and downs this year, haven’t you? From bands pulling out, Twitter wars and crowd injuries, you’ve still managed to pull off one of the most successful national festival tours we’ve seen in some years. The pure scale of the festival has always managed to daunt me, but it wasn’t until I actually stepped foot in the Bonython Park venue that I realised how mega this year’s Soundwave was setting up to be. This year, AJ Maddah had set out to create a festival to be, in the words of Wayne Campbell, double live gonzo. Intensity in ten cities. Live at Budokan.

Photo Gallery and Live Review: Blink 182 - RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane (22.02.13)

There's somewhat of an appeal to be had with teenage nostalgia. Terrible, crushing awkwardness reigned in only through a camaraderie with other terribly awkward teens as connected by small, fragile threads of common interests likely to change on a whim. The only thread I can remember that stayed the same throughout my years was that everyone, and I mean everyone, was a fan of Blink 182.

Live Review: Blink 182 + The Vandals - Allphones Arena (20.02.13)

“I never want to act my age”: a line from one of their biggest hits and an appropriate theme for a long overdue Australia tour. As one of Soundwave 2013’s biggest attractions, Blink 182 played Allphones Arena and took us back to their heyday; back when pretty much everyone, even if they were home-schooled, listened to their pop-punk anthems every single day.
