Festival Review: The Falls Music and Arts Festival (Day Three) - Byron Bay, NSW (02.01.14)

The final day’s bill was ostensibly much more low key than its predecessor, yet there were plenty of acts - both well known and not - vying for our eyes and ears. Triple J Unearthed alumni Oliver Tank got through the main stage nerves to play his familiar set to the early birds, while former Unearthed High winner Asta continued to thank the crowd for making her dreams come true. She performed with the charisma of a much more experienced artist, but until her songwriting improves, she simply won’t make a genuine connection with her audience - who in this case were largely unmoved.

True, The Wombats may have missed the official countdown in Marion Bay, but then there’s nothing like a bit of confusion and chaos to kick off the new year with a bang.

Live Review: Birds Of Tokyo + Asta + All The Colours - The Hi-Fi, Sydney (23.05.13)

birds of tokyo

Tonight’s gig was put on by a mobile phone company with competition winners and media and a few paying public all in the name of marketing and advertising for their new smart phone. Disappointed at not receiving one of these said new phones I had to be content with some awesome music instead. Four dapper young men dressed in matching white tuxedo suit jackets with plenty of swagger and groove kicked the night off. All The Colours brand of indie rock contained pretty harmonies, raucous riffs and a polished little set that impressed the early punters.

the AU interview: Asta (Tasmania)

After winning the 2012 Triple J Unearthed High competition, splitting the Hottest 100 straight down the middle with her first single and playing some select shows around the country, Tasmanian born, Asta reveals she’s ready for the next step. She took time to answer some questions about her music before her set at Brisbane’s Track and Field festival.

Live Review: Track and Field #3 - Electric Playground (26.04.13)

Brisbane’s third Track and Field festival features a collection of artists who are on the rise nationally and beyond, and (for the uninitiated) has absolutely nothing to do with athletics. Headlined by Melbourne’s Alpine, the event also featured local talents The Jungle Giants and Dune Rats plus Tasmania’s Triple J Unearthed High 2012 winner Asta. Held somewhat unusually at Electric Playground, the night turned out to be a great success and genuinely entertaining time for everyone.

the AU interview: Asta (Hobart, Tasmania)

Young Tasmanian talent Asta is one of the most hyped Australian artists of the last year - and rightly so. We took some time to talk to Asta about the last few months, her appearance in Brisbane for Track and Field this Friday and more!
