Album Review: Animal Collective - Monkey Been To Burn Town (2013 EP)

Animal Collective - Monkey Been To Burn Town (2013 EP)

Animal Collective defy convention at every turn. Rather than produce a quick follow up to breakthrough and critically acclaimed conqueror Merriweather Post Pavilion. They re-united with former member Deakon, who had sat out of recording the last album. Pursuing a more live sounding album, they eschewed much of the samples and pop elements that had made Merriweather so endearing. Centipede HZ saw them instead return to the gonzo oddball prog-folk that had characterized earlier albums.

Nine Inch Nails, Neutral Milk Hotel and more to appear at the Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit in North Carolina this October.

As far as first artist announcements go, the first reveal for the 2013 Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit is a pretty huge one. The three day festival taking place in Asheville, North Carolina, celebrates innovative music and arts in presenting a series of panels, interactive experiences, installations and exhibitions as well as a run of live music performances from some of the best in the genre.

Tame Impala set to perform at the 2013 Heineken Open'r Festival.

Perth boys Tame Impala are just one of the many amazing acts set to perform at this year's Open'r Festival! From July 3 through to July 6, Gdynia in Poland will be hosting a slew of international music talent, fuelling rumours of possible performances by certain acts *coughBlurcough* at a certain Australian festival *coughSplendourcough*.

Live Review: Animal Collective + Africa Hitech - The Palace (23.01.13)

Entering The Palace it was clear straight away that it was going to be an enjoyable evening. There was a bit of a buzz in the air and Animal Collective's stage show looked rather impressive. Suspended above were a row of teeth while on the stage there were also sets of teeth either side and several jagged cones towering over the performance area, creating the effect of a giant mouth similar to that on the cover of their latest album.

Festival Review: Big Day Out - Royal Adelaide Showgrounds (25.01.13)

There was a definite change of mood about the Showgrounds this year. It’s obvious upon one’s first scout about the festival site that the Big Day Out just doesn’t function properly in the stripped back capacity it did last year. With both main stages back in action, the El Jimador wrestling ring and Chow Town being new shiny drawcards for punters and the sheer force of the line-up this year, the Big Day Out experience people will buy tickets for actually seemed to be in operation for this, the 2013 edition.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Adelaide turned on some fantastic weather for the 2013 Big Day Out. With another amazing line-up this year, the fans enjoyed a day of great music and the AU review's photographer, Kerrie Geier, was there to capture it all.

Live Review: Animal Collective - Enmore Theatre (17.01.13)

Animal Collective have always been a hard band to pin down. With a career spanning 13 years and 8 albums, they’ve never been one to do the same thing twice, or by halves, and that’s fine with them.

Festival Review: Big Day Out - Sydney Showground (18.01.13)

A record-breaking heatwave couldn’t stop Big Day Out 2013 from being one of the best in years, though not for lack of trying. The relentless sun threatened punters with heatstroke until about 6pm, at which point the cool air was a godsend, and the small bursts of rain salvation for us all.

The Animal Collective returned to the Enmore Theatre to unleash their new album, Centipede Hz in all its live glory.

the AU interview: Josh Dibb of Animal Collective (Baltimore)

Baltimore crew Animal Collective need little introduction. They've released 9 studio albums and have each engaged in what seems an endless amount of musical projects on their own. With each album seemingly more eclectic than the last, their latest album Centipede Hz is no exception to the rule and doesn't even vaguely adhere to any sort of 'rule.' They're notoriously experimental and unconventional, and we praise them for it.
