the AU interview: Tyler Szalkowski of State Champs (New York) talk second LP, "Shot Boys" and touring with 5SOS

New York pop-punk band, State Champs have had a busy two years since releasing their debut album, The Finer Things. It's hard to imagine how far they have come since 2013 and it's clear that they pretty much gave it their all to be where they are now. After several international tours and countless opportunities, they managed to successfully give a refreshing sound to the pop-punk scene. Although my teenage years are long over, I'll always have a soft spot for emerging pop punk bands who have a good sense of humour and show passion for their music. In this interview, guitarist and backing vocalist, Tyler Szalkowski shares details about the upcoming second album, the sacrifices he has made in pursuing his dreams and more. Read on for the full interview.

Fresh off the road as support band for Anberlin, and recently opening up a Pledge Music campaign for their upcoming album Dark Horses, The Getaway Plan are taking a step forward, releasing an album without the help of a record label.

Live Review: Anberlin + The Getaway Plan - HQ, Adelaide (04.09.14)

American alt-rockers Anberlin called it quits earlier this year after a monumental 12 years together and the release of seven much-loved studio albums. They chose to go out with a bang, bidding adieu to every corner of the globe with their almost-sold-out farewell tour. Each band member did their best to make the performance truly unforgettable and it showed in the audience's careless dance moves, off-key singing and thunderous applause.

Album Review: Anberlin - Lowborn (2014 LP)

I've had a hard time starting this album review, maybe because Anberlin are one of my favourite bands and the last thing I want to do is write something that isn't at all interesting. For all you dedicated Anberlin fans out there, as you know, they will be disbanding towards the end of the year and being a fan of their music since I was a teenager, this was seriously the saddest news that can be brought upon on such an amazing band.

Live Review: Anberlin + The Maine + William Beckett + Masketta Fall - The Hi-Fi, Sydney (07.09.13)

Having only become an Anberlin fan in the past year thanks to the recommendation of a close friend, I wasn’t sure what to expect from their live show. Yes, they made rock music, but how would the energy transfer to the stage? However, with such a strong line up, it wasn’t hard for my friend to convince me to attend. And I’m so glad she did.
