Sydney Festival Live Review: Amanda Palmer - The Spiegeltent, Festival Village (09.01.14)

Amanda Palmer is so much at once that it’s often hard to tell which way one of her gigs is going to go. This year’s Sydney Festival has the forward-thinking musician doing a run of intimate performances in the otherworldly The Spiegeltent, the centrepiece for the huge Festival Village in Hyde Park. Palmer makes her love for our country no secret, as such she has a healthy stock of local friends who will be dropping in and out of her gigs, ensuring surprises for those who feel the need to see her multiple times; after how great this performance was, I am probably going to be one of those people.

Amanda Palmer

Amanda Palmer brought her Grand Theft Orchestra and a whole bunch of friends to Adelaide's Thebarton Theatre on Sunday night. Die Roten Punkte entertained with their comedic rock, Jherek Bischoff delighted with his amazing string arangements, and Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra put on one epic show. The last of the tour, it ended in an all out dance party on stage. Check out all the shots from Kerrie Geier who was there for the AU review.

the AU interview at BIGSOUND: Amanda Palmer (New York)

the AU review sits down with Amanda Palmer for a two part interview at the 2013 BIGSOUND festival in Brisbane, Australia. We talk about touring, her recently confirmed performance at the Sydney Festival, speaking at BIGSOUND, Kickstarter purchased house parties, playing at venues around Australia from private houses to the Opera House, creating set lists, keeping concerts fresh and exciting, and much more. In addition, she was kind enough to sing Founder and Editor-in-Chief Larry Heath a song to celebrate.

Live Review: Amanda Palmer And The Grand Theft Orchestra + Jherek Bischoff + Die Roten Punkte - The Enmore Theatre (14.09.13)

Amanda Palmer has an intensity that colours her musical career as much as it does the relationship with her fans. We love it. Standing outside the Enmore Theatre, it was clear we’d been touched by it too: the floor length black coats, shirts from last tour, lacy corsets, and various piercings earn us weird looks from pedestrians, but no-one cares. We chat. We sing. We wait for doors.

Event Review: BIGSOUND Day Three (12.09.13)

The mood at BIGSOUND early this morning was notably more sombre in comparison with the exciting flurry of activity of the previous day. More than a few people were nursing the aftermath of a big night with the help of coffees, energy drinks and sneaky naps in the foyer. Thankfully for those who managed to get there in time, the morning began with a Q&A with Amanda Palmer, an event that has certainly been one of the highlights of the conference. In an interview with Mikey Cahill, Palmer talked extensively about Kickstarter, her poem about the Boston bomber, feminism, her new band, record and touring.
