Top Sydney chefs will team up this Sunday in support of Australia’s bushfire crisis

On Sunday 12th January, some of Sydney’s most highly regarded hospitality heavyweights will collaborate for a #cookforthebush event in support of the country’s ongoing bushfire crisis.

Spearheaded by the team at NOMAD, the supergroup will be staging three culinary events through the day, including a rooftop lunch, a good old fashioned bake sale, and a special a la carte brunch.

While the bunch sold out within just a few hours, the bake sale takeover within GoGo Bar at Chin Chin is still open, as well as the rooftop lunch at Paramount Recreational Club. 100% of all proceeds from all events will go directly to the Australian Red Cross.

Along with NOMAD’s Exec Chef Jacqui Challinor, chefs and venues on board include Aria, Ester, Firedoor, Fred’s, Icebergs Dining Room + Bar, Quay, Rockpool Bar & Grill and Sixpenny with more expected to come on board in the coming days.

Rock up to Chin Chin from 3pm for all takeaway baked goods. As for the rooftop lunch, that will kick off with seatings from 12pm where guests can reserve two hour slots for $250 with roaming canape style dishes. Palisa Anderson from Boon Luck Farm will be donating produce for the event while the neighbouring bar team from Tio’s will prepare cocktails and St Ali and Single O will provide coffee for the brunch and bake sale.

“After feeling completely helpless for weeks, I realised that as a community working together, we could have more of an impact than I ever could alone,” says Challinor. “Feeding people is what we do best so it makes sense that we take that and turn it into something truly valuable. What is happening in our country is completely heartbreaking and it’s going to take community spirit, not just money to build us back up again.”

A full list of the current chefs who are confirmed to cook and create a dish at Sunday’s fundraiser include Aaron Ward (Sixpenny), Alessandro Pavoni (Ormeggio at The Spit), Alex Herbert (Bird Cow Fish), Alex Prichard (Icebergs Dining Room + Bar), Andy Bowdy (Saga), Carol & Sharon Salloum (Almond Bar), Colin Fassnidge (My Kitchen Rules), Corey Costelloe (Rockpool Bar & Grill), Danielle Alvarez (Fred’s), Duncan Welgemoed (Africola), Federico Zanellato (LuMi), Graeme Hunt (Chin Chin), Guillaume Brahimi (Bistro Guillaume), Hamish Ingham (Banksii), Ibrahim Kasif (Stanbuli), James Viles (Biota), Jacqui Challinor (NOMAD), Jamie Gannon (Banksia Bistro), Jarrod Walsh (Hartsyard), Jason White (Firedoor), Joel Bickford (Aria), Julian Cincotta (Butter), Martin Boetz (Cooks Co-op), Max Smith (Cho Cho San), Michael Nicolian (Continental Deli & Bistro), Michael Rantissi (Kepos Street Kitchen), Mike McEnearney (Kitchen by Mike), Nathan Brindle (Ester), Nic Wong (Icebergs Dining Room + Bar), Peter Gilmore (Quay), Rhiann Mead (Bennelong), Sam Kane (Bert’s), Stefano Marano (Apollo), Stuart Toon (Rocker), Sujet Saenkham (Spice I Am), Travis Harvey (OzHarvest) and Troy Rhoades-Brown (Muse).

Alongside the brunch and bake sale, NOMAD will host a silent auction which will conclude on the evening of Sunday 12 January, selling a generous collection of vouchers and experiences than span the hospitality industry. Silent bids can be made online at nomadwine.com.au or across social media in the coming days or in person at all three participating outlets on the day. NOMAD encourages any and all other venues from within the Sydney hospitality industry to come forward with additional contributions before Sunday.

Due to the overwhelming response and support from the industry, the NOMAD team are currently working on additional initiatives to be announced in the coming days and weeks. Reservations for the rooftop lunch are now available at nomadwine.com.au.
