Hotel Review: The NYLO Dallas South Side in Dallas, Texas

The NYLO chain of hotels currently represents a fresh and modern approach to hotel accommodation, providing a range of rooms to a variety of traveller, whether it’s a family, business person or a casual visitor to the city. They have hotels in New York, New England and various spots in Texas and it’s the NYLO Dallas South Side which the AU stayed for a few nights while visiting Dallas earlier in March.

An easy drive from Dallas Love Field airport, the NYLO Dallas South Side is positioned a 5-10 minute drive from the CBD and the Convention Center, making it easily accessible while also offering a bit of a sojourn from the hustle and bustle. Music venues are a stone’s throw from the hotel, making it a popular choice of stay for people coming through to Dallas to attend gigs at the famed South Side Ballroom. Bush played the venue the evening we checked into the NYLO Dallas South Side and already, there were people excitedly chatting in the halls about the show afterward.

The design of the hotel keeps with the heritage of the building itself, with none of the interior walls or exterior being touched; the brick walls are exposed, the concrete floors have been polished and the high ceilings demonstrate the ambition behind the original architecture. Although the building is large, the vibe of the NYLO still remains boutique – the artwork and design of the decor is uniquely industrial and yet still so contemporary.

The rooms are large and luxurious, the higher levels offering a stunning view of the Dallas skyline, especially by night. The beds are huge and are incredibly comfortable, positioned so you can be waking up to the aforementioned view or going to sleep watching the impressive wall-mounted flat screen TV. With complimentary internet access for the guests as well, the hotel rooms are big enough for the visitor to spread out and either make a homely environment, or get work down in a comfortable surrounding. The bathroom is also accommodating, with a large shower and all amenities available for a comfortable experience.

The NYLO Dallas South Side also hosts the Terrace Bistro and the popular Soda Bar, the latter up on the rooftop. Featuring an impressive outdoor pool and cabana area for hotel guests, you can swim whilst enjoying a cocktail and overlooking the skyline. The artwork adorning the walls of the bar – and throughout the hotel – is all done by local artists and are all up for purchase. The pieces on display when I was staying there were vibrant and exciting examples of the flourishing artistic scene and the NYLO proved that it’s a top supporter of artists in the Dallas district.

The staff at the NYLO Dallas South Side were incredibly helpful upon check in and were great in advising me how to get about the CBD and the arts districts nearby. There are also a number of vacation packages on offer as well, some of which they offered to tell me about during my stay.
