Mary’s is opening up a new venue on the roof of The Lansdowne Hotel

Mary's Burgers

With restrictions being lifted for our favourite food and drink spots across Sydney, it seems we are getting our very first post-lockdown opening this week. And it’s coming from the legendary team behind burger mecca Mary’s, taking their beloved burger joint and putting it right on the top of the Lansdowne Hotel.

Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham have done tremendous things to the historic venue since reopening it as a beacon of greasy pizza and live music back in 2017. The new venue, dubbed Mary’s On Top, is the literal crown and comes with a greatest hits menu focused on a range of good old-fashioned Mary’s burgers.

“It’s always been sitting there, taunting us with its proximity and promise”, said Smyth, speaking on their long-gestating plans for the rooftop. “Now with the world gone crazy, we figured we would match that craziness by opening a fucking venue in the midst of the COVID mess.”

Mary’s On Top will be officially open from tomorrow, Thursday 4th June. It’ll be weather-dependant so checking Mary’s social channels before heading along is a good idea. Note that Sydney’s really fucking cold at the moment, but undoubtedly the team will have some heat solutions up there.

The guts of Lansdowne Hotel remain closed until further notice so, at least for now, the rooftop entrance will be via Knox Street.

“When you consider that Sydney has day-time averages above 17c for the entirety of fucking winter, and a total of 17 days of rain out of 90, it is pure insanity to think about the severe lack of rooftops being used as prime social and cultural spaces,” says Graham,

Beers, burgers and wine is what you should be expecting with Mary’s On Top open from Thursday to Sunday 12pm to 10pm. That includes the classic Mary’s Burger, cheesburger, vege burger, chicken burger, vegan versions, and all the extras Mary’s fans know and love. You can also get a whole or half chook, as well as mash n gravy.

It’s also worth noting that Mary’s currently have a generous discount going on at all of their venues, offered in solidarity with the salary cuts that almost everyone has been dealt over the past few months. That’s 30% off food prices across Newtown, Circular Quay, CBD, Melbourne and now Chippendale Mary’s venues, and it applies for dine-in as well as takeaway or delivery via Deliveroo.
