the AU interview: Murph of The Wombats (UK) talk about Splendour In The Grass and Lollapalooza

Front man Matthew Murphy from Liverpool’s electro-pop trio The Wombats caught up with Johnny moments before going on stage in front of a crowded house at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion. No strangers to a sold out show in Sydney, hear what Murph had to say on these dedicated crowds and their experience at Splendour In The Grass..

This year has been a time for firsts for the band, playing their new album Glitterbug live for the first time across Australia; “the dust is all settled around the release and we feel comfortable in the songs we’re playing”. After the overwhelmingly excellent reception from their Splendour tour, Murph is still stunned by the fans response, saying it’s “the best crowd we’ve ever played to. Ever. The entire amphitheatre was filled, the crowd was with us the whole way, the energy never went away”.

During their time at the festival, the boys got the chance to catch Florence + The Machine live, as well as Australia’s own Pond. Now preparing their way to Melbourne then to Adelaide, the one big destination ahead is Lollapollaza. After completing the European festival circuit, Murph still plans on touring; “it’s all go till January, hopefully coming back to Australia around then or shortly after then”. On staying inspired to continue being on the road 24/7, Murph states “as long as there’s a crowd that are willing to go mental for us we’re always going to be there”.
