Decorated Generals – Oxford Art Factory (25.02.09)

A while back I reviewed Decorated Generals as part of the MUM lineup at World Bar, in which I commented on how they are easily, and perhaps surprisingly, one of the most impressive up-and-coming bands Sydney has seen in some time. In a recent appearance at Oxford Art Factory, they cemented this status, playing tracks off their forthcoming EP which sounded tens times more polished than the last time I saw them.

“White Noise” is of particular mention, one of many tracks in which long, melodic instrumental jams make for engrossing live performances which I’m sure will translate very well on the EP. A perfect example of this (as you can hear it on their Myspace Page) is “Hung From The Roof”, which remains their most polished live number, channeling a bit of Death Cab and Snow Patrol along the way. “Dark Glasses” is also a fantastic example of the former comparison… although probably far more energetic. But as I’m no fan of band-to-band comparisons, that’s about all I’ve got for these guys. At least in this review.

With talent that far exceeds most bands who seem to be “making it” on the live circuit today, I can’t recommend this band highly enough and look forward to seeing where such talent takes them in the near and distant future.
