The Outer Worlds 2 drops most self-aware trailer, coming 2022

The Outer Worlds 2

Obsidian Entertainment has confirmed development is underway on The Outer Worlds 2. It is the sequel to the studio’s Game of the Year winning Fallout-style RPG.

The trailer walks the viewer through a litany of tropes associated with trailers seen at E3, usually for games not that far into development. It’s a great time. You can check it out below.

Boy, they’ve really got E3’s number, don’t they? Could it be that the games industry knows exactly which emotional buttons to press to elicit a specific response? That they can get us to pre-order a game based on little more than well-worn tropes in a tonal teaser?

That’s really all we know about the game so far. But really, with a trailer this good, do we really need to know anything else just yet? The Outer Worlds 2 has done what most E3 trailers are desperate to do: sell us on the game without showing us anything at all.

The Outer Worlds was one of our GOTY picks in 2019. It was a skillfully made, actual-size trip down memory lane for fans of Obsidian’s earlier work on Fallout. The sense of humour that pervaded the original has found its way straight back into this trailer too.
