the AU interview: Softwar (Sydney)

In advance of their East Coast appearances at Parklife later this month, Irene Antoniou caught up with Sydney duo Softwar to talk about their upcoming performances, their new EP and much more…

How does it feel to be claimed as ‘the ones to watch’?

Its a super nice feeling and we are very happy to see people getting behind the whole Softwar thing – The whole dance music scene is really starting to build in Australia which is amazing to be part of. It’s festivals like Parklife that provide great opportunities for new acts like us to showcase what we are about, so we’re really looking forward to it.

What inspired the title of your latest EP ‘This Time Around (Future Classic)’?

To be honest, It was based around the song itself and the lyrics – I wish it was more interesting than that.

Where did your inspiration come from for your EP, other than the influence of 90’s house music?

A mixture of sources – yeah the whole 90’s vibe is very much present – We wanted an Ep that had a good mix of tracks, not just dance ones – The track ‘August’ is maybe a little 80’s inspired with a summery feel to it and allot more chilled. Then ‘Taken Liberty’ is a little more new school but still with the heavy Piano vibe – we made this partly in New York, so was a nice headspace for us both and maybe the whole travel thing came across as inspiration on this one.

In the past, you guys did a lot of remix work, with various artists, can we expect a remix album any time soon, or after your current EP?

Yeah we have been fortunate to work on allot of remixes – No current plans for a remix album but could be a good idea.

Performing Parklife (East Coast only), what can your fans expect to see from a live show with you guys?

We are going to build it around a journey – a real mix of our own productions and upcoming stuff that has not been heard before.. We are really looking forward to it!

You will be performing your latest EP tracks at Parklife, will you guys surprise us with anything else?

Yeah we got a few new ones up our sleeve ready for a preview – expect to hear some pretty interesting sounds.

On a regular day with Softwar, what could we see you guys getting up to?

We could make up some really cool stuff with this one but we would be just lying… We are both pretty standard during the day, actually probably boring. We both like our cereal, DVD’s and flat screen TV’s so normal stuff really.

What can we expect next from Softwar?

More releases and remixes coming up – We also have a really big vinyl release coming out with Modular records later this year and we are going to throw a massive party so can’t wait for this.

Catch Softwar at Parklife (East Coast dates only) later this month! Details: http://www.parklife.com.au/

They will also be appearing at Surry Hills Festival…
