Exclusive Single Premiere: Lizzie Jack and The Beanstalks “Bens Backyard” (2020)

Wollongong quartet Lizzie Jack and the Beanstalks are just about to drop their third single, “Ben’s Backyard” and we are thrilled to be premiering this shimmering slice of summer prior to its release on Friday.

The four-piece is comprised of Lizzie Jack on vocals and rhythm guitar, James Daniel on lead guitar, Alex Fordyce on bass and Paddy Harris on drums. Their debut EP Things I Shouldn’t Talk About was released last year. Their songs are characterised by having just the right amount of guitars meshed with vocals which tell the tales of youth, friendships, love, survival and tales of big nights out. Fans of Alexy Lahey and Maddy Jane are going to dig these guys. Lizzie Jack and the Beanstalks write catchy songs, no two ways about it.

“Bens Backyard” is a bright breezy song, laced with a touch of nostalgia and is going to resonate with many listeners. Jacks vocals are a delight, the story-telling nature of the song, which is typical of the band, grabs and keeps your attention, and with a guitar solo thrown in for good luck, it’s a song to put to repeat.

Jack describes how she came up with the song “I wrote the lyrics by singing to myself in the car and just repeating them over and over to memorise them before chucking them in a note on my phone. Then I went and figured out chords on an acoustic guitar to go with the melody.”

Alex Fordyce expanded on how they put it all together: “After Lizzie had the idea for the chord progression. I made a basic track before getting Lizzie to sing it and then James added the chorus lead (which I was against at first, but f**king love it now) before I added the bridge lead bits.”

Adam Jordan mixed and mastered the track at Main St Studios

They will be launching the single at The Arthouse Cafe in Port Kembla on Friday. Details below.
