What to expect from Jim Steinman’s Bat out of Hell: The Rock Musical

The year was 1977. The legend Jim Steinman wrote (along with Todd Rundgren) what would become the biggest debut album of all time. That album is called Bat Out Of Hell.

Singer of Bat out of Hell, Meatloaf, became a sensation with his range of powerhouse vocals often coupled with female singers with such pizzazz that one couldn’t help but prick up their ears and acknowledge the greatness of such a music relationship. There is no Meatloaf without Steinman and there is no Steinman without Meatloaf.

Fast forward down the track and Steinman has written songs with and for, Bonnie Tyler (Total Eclipse of the Heart), Celine Dion (It’s All Coming Back To Me Now), Sisters of Mercy (This Corrosion) and Barbra Streisand (Left In The Dark), just to name a few.

Fast forward even further down the track to the now ~ and we have Jim Steinman’s music, lyrics and book together for a musical. Bat Out Of Hell The Musical opened in Manchester in 2017 and it has had productions in Toronto, The USA, Germany and London ever since. We are lucky to have the musical here on Aussie shores this June playing around the country.

No doubt, many fans are asking what to expect from the musical. The story is set in the dystopian city of Obsidian, once known as Manhattan, beginning with Strat recalling his first encounter with rock and roll. At this point, his DNA freezes and he remains eighteen forever with his friends. Strat falls in love with Raven, the daughter of a tyrannical leader. What ensues is a post-apocalyptic musical albeit a futuristic sci-fi interpretation of Peter Pan and what is ultimately a love story intertwined with Steinman’s glorious music. The stage will be set as a large scale rock musical arena and you can expect a dazzling light show, special effects and plenty of fire! Expect songs such as You Took the Words Right Out Of My Mouth, Bat Out of Hell and I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That) plus many more numbers.

Drape yourself in nostalgia, dust off your boots, practice your singing, let your hair hang down and get aboard Bat Out Of Hell The Musical and witness the production at a scale never seen before over a two and a half-hour musical spectacular.

Think loudness, think darkness, think STEINMAN.
