Sometimes you see a band and while you dig it there's one thing that makes want to check them out again. Over a year ago I saw a band called Grimm Love and the stand out thing for me was guitarist Nat Moss. She has a peculiar way of bending stings that gives me shivers, the song 'Needles' that she sung in the set was by far the stand out. I liked it enough to make a live video of it. In fairness I had enjoyed Grimm Love before Nat joined the line up, she just stole the show.
Nat's back in a new three piece called Swamp Lizard, Boskie from the last band is still on drums, and when I saw them play at The Lansdowne they were breaking in a new bass player. It's Grunge but it's definitely Australian -many of the people in the audience were as much fans of Aussie garage rock as they were of Seattle 90's bands. Recently we've seen the psychedelic, DIY, hard rock, punk, indie scenes produce well regarded bands. Eddy current proved that something with garage roots can still have wide appeal. Circle pit owes allot to grunge and is about to embark on a US tour. Maybe it's Aussie grunge's turn. Let's hope that Swamp Lizard gets the chance to find out, the talent's there, and those fluffy pink perms can't be easy to maintain. They deserve a shot for hair alone!
If you're interested check out the live video of Grimm Love playing 'Needles', if you imagine that the bass player is a dude then the band's Swamp Lizard.
