May 6th, the Harp Hotel in Wollongong hosted MM9 with supports including locals, Earth Mechanics.
Earth Mechanics opened for MM9 with a raging set which channelled the likes of Karnivool and Dead Letter Circus with their quite individual prog rock sound. Playing some of their more well known tracks such as ‘Head on Collision’ as well as some new songs including ‘If This World Just Laid Down to Die’, Earth Mechanics had the crowd captivated by their sound. The band have been busy writing and have plenty of shows coming up, this is one up and coming local Wollongong band that can’t be missed.
MM9 took to the stage for the 3rd last show of their tour to an energized audience who were clearly ready for the party that was beginning. Starting their set with the lively track SOSOS was a winner and got the crowd absolutely pumped. The momentum carried on through songs ‘Talking to Himself’ and 3 more songs from their debut LP ‘The Air Between’, which by the sounds of the crowd singing along, has been well adopted in MM9’s somewhat ‘home’ town Wollongong. The band treated the audience with a B side from the album which got a positive response. The rest of the set included 4 more songs from ‘The Air Between’, including Myspace hit ‘Drama Drama’ and some remixes of old tracks with crowd favourite ‘Disappear’. A highlight of the night was the lighting, some of the best I’ve seen at the Harp Hotel. Overall, everyone walked out exhausted from all the dancing and arm-throwing, although very, very satisfied.
