On arrival at the unibar, a band called The Sun Orchestra were on stage. Quite a delightful sound. I didn't get to see much but was pleasantly surprised to hear such a good first support.

I had no idea who was supporting Basement Birds, so when I found out Old Man River was on next I was ecstatic. I first saw Old Man River at Bluesfest this year and was so delighted with their music I bought their album right there and then. Old Man River took to the stage, and like a sweet sunday afternoon walk in the park, it was both relaxing and exciting. The crowd was mostly all seated during the set but by the end the band had some fans dancing all along the barrier. Early in the set we heard "Sunshine", and I wasn't asking where the sunshine was, it was right here in this room shining brightly from the lead singers afro. Highlight of Old Man River's set was "Summer", a personal, and crowd favourite.

Basement Birds opened their set with their first released single "Waiting For You", they showed class and style in their performance as any group of musicians with this much talent would. Collectively they all sound harmonious and fit extremely well together, each member seemed to know how to play to each other members strengths as well as their own. However, the stand out vocalist was Kav Temperley (of Eskimo Joe), with such a distinctive voice, how could he not be really?

The set included various songs off their self-titled album including "Skin Of The Sky" and "Reasons", as well as a cover of Sarah Blasko's "All I Want". The cover featured Kav on double bass which added a lovely touch to their soft rendition of the song. The band spoke at various times throughout the set, between almost every song, and it was tasteful and showed the true friendship between all of the musicians. This is a band I wanted to curl up in a ball and take home in my handbag, adoreable really.

Many peoples highlight was the encore which consisted of a cover of The Presets "My People", an unlikely choice, but successful nonetheless. They explained the tour as a historical event, outlining that it will be the only tour Basement Birds partake on, and I must admit it was a delight to be a part of such history.
